Privacy Policy

Last Updated: March 8, 2026

YesGov ("we," "us," or "our") is a Public Benefit Corporation that provides government website and email security compliance services. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and protect information when you visit yesgov.com, use our open-data portal, submit contact requests, or use our managed services.

Information We Collect

Contact Form and Service Requests

When you submit a contact form, claim a government profile, submit a domain, or apply for YesGov services, we collect the information you provide: name, email address, phone number (optional), government entity name, population served, and message content. This information is stored in our CRM system and used to respond to your request and provide services.

Portal Accounts

Government officials, managed service providers, and YesGov staff who create portal accounts provide an email address and display name. We store session data, login timestamps, and account role information to manage access and security.

Domain Security Scanning

Our domain security checker collects publicly available technical information about government domains: DNS records, SSL/TLS certificates, email authentication records, HTTP headers, and website metadata. This data is derived entirely from public DNS and HTTP responses. We do not access private systems, email contents, or non-public data.

Analytics

We use Matomo, a self-hosted privacy-respecting analytics platform, to understand how visitors use our website. Matomo collects anonymized usage data including page views, referrers, browser type, and general geographic region. We do not use Google Analytics or share analytics data with third parties. Matomo is hosted at metrics.secure-cluster.com and is operated by YesGov infrastructure.

Server Logs

Our web servers automatically record standard access logs including IP addresses, timestamps, requested URLs, and HTTP status codes. These logs are used for security monitoring and debugging and are retained for a limited period.

How We Use Information

  • Respond to contact requests and service inquiries
  • Process government profile claims and domain submissions
  • Administer portal accounts and manage access permissions
  • Provide open-data reporting on government website security posture
  • Monitor domain security compliance for managed service clients
  • Improve the website and services based on usage patterns
  • Send service-related communications (magic-link sign-in emails, alert notifications)

Information Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information. We may share information only in these circumstances:

  • Public open-data: Government entity names, domain names, and security posture data from public DNS/HTTP sources are published on our open-data portal. This is publicly available information.
  • Service delivery: If you are a managed service client, we may share relevant technical data with your designated contacts as part of service delivery.
  • Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, or government request.

Data Retention

Contact form submissions and CRM records are retained indefinitely for service continuity. Portal account data is retained while the account is active. Domain security check results are retained to provide historical comparison and trend data. Analytics data is retained in aggregate form. You may request deletion of your personal information by contacting us.

Cookies and Tracking

We use session cookies to maintain login state for portal accounts. Matomo may set a first-party analytics cookie. We do not use third-party tracking cookies, advertising pixels, or cross-site tracking.

Data Security

We use HTTPS encryption for all connections, HSTS with preload, DNSSEC, and security headers. Database credentials are stored in server-only configuration files not committed to source control. Portal sessions use secure, httpOnly, sameSite cookies.
